On August 4, 2016, it was announced that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was developing a remake of 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, itself a remake of the 1964 film Bedtime Story, with female centered about two con women, and Rebel Wilson attached to star. Roger Birnbaum and Wilson would produce the film through Birnbaum's Pin High Productions and Wilson's Camp Sugar Productions from a screenplay by Jac Schaeffer.
In January 2017, the working title of the film was revealed to be Nasty Women and it was announced that Anne Hathaway would also star in the lead. The title is a reference to the "nasty woman" comment which Donald Trump directed to Hillary Clinton.
In March 2017, Chris Addison was hired to make his directorial debut with the film.
On August 24, 2017, Alex Sharp was cast to play the male lead in the film, a tech billionaire who in his early 20s becomes the wager center between two experienced con women.
Principal photography on the film began in mid-September 2017 in the UK. Filming was also done at the Farnborough Airport.
The film was scheduled to be released on August 10, 2018 by Annapurna Pictures however it was pulled forward to June 29, 2018 but later pushed back to May 10, 2019.
