Background
Started by Mrs. Mridula Jain, the Chairperson, in 1976, Shingora had 8 handlooms and a few shawl weavers. Over three decades, the company has transformed into a high-tech, modern and sound infrastructural unit. Amit Jain, Managing Director, has studied Engineering and Business at Kentucky. Under his guidance, the process of updating the machinery and technology used to manufacture the shawls was undertaken.
Products
Shingora started out as a manufacturer of shawls, predominantly wool and pashmina. With time and adapting to global tastes, stoles and scarfs were also introduced for women, along with lines for men including pocket squares, shawls, scarfs and stoles and kids (consisting of Disney licensing) in India. A Home Furnishing line consisting of throws and cushion covers has also been introduced. From a local brand nurtured in Ludhiana, it has created brand value in many countries around the world.
Export History
Within 3 years of setting up Shingora, exports were started when the then Chairperson of the Wool & Woollen Export Promotion Council encouraged Mrs. Jain to export shawls and even sponsored a visit to Western Europe to study its shawl market. Now, after a chunk of export, the brand retails domestically and there are plans to enhance this volume. To cater to the international market, Shingora worked with the Woolmark Company to produce smaller shawls (stoles) which were more practical with western outfits. It exports to US, Japan, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Western Europe
