When is a database in 3NF?

Answer

As we proceed to higher normal forms, the redudancy levels are reduced.

If it is said that a given relational schema R is in present in 3NF, it is considered that the relation satisfies the condition of 2NF. Also, there should not be any transitive dependencies present in the schema.

That is, every relational schema in 3rd normal form, with no transitive dependencies, is in 3NF.
