World Olympic Day!

The Olympic day is a celebration for sports, health, and prosperity and it helps in bringing out the best in a sportsperson. Participants from all over the world take part in this and to celebrate this day, an International Olympic Committee was founded in 1894.

Hence, every year on this day, i.e., 23rd June the International Olympic Day was founded.

On this day, usually, Olympic Day Runs are held between 18-24 by National Olympic Committee (NOC’s) and the distance may have variations from 1.5 km to even 10 km.

OLYMPIC SYMBOL – DEFINITION AND MEANING

The Olympic symbol consists of five intertwined rings and each one has equal dimensions. The only difference it has of the different colors and their meanings. When these are used in the five-colored versions, then these go as from left to right – blue, yellow, black, green, and red. And we can see that blue, black and red rings are on the top while yellow and green are at the bottom.

The Olympic symbol expresses “the activity of the Olympic Movement and represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the World Olympics Games”.

As expressed by the Founder of the Olympic Movement, Pierre de Coubertin – “These five rings represent the five parts of the world now won over to the cause of Olympism and ready to accept it’s fecund rivalries. What is more, the six colors thus combined reproduce those of all nations without exception”.

Olympic Games were scheduled for summer 2020 in Tokyo but due to the Corona Virus pandemic, games have been postponed to summer 2021, Tokyo. Around, 193 countries would be participating in the upcoming games.
