WiFi: Wireless Technology

Everywhere you go, you’re likely to hear the term “Wi-fi”. That’s why Wi-Fi is the one of the essential element of our lives. We have to accept that when we visit a coffee shop, library or any other place, initially we always ask for Wi-Fi password.  We use Wi-Fi all the time, but there is many people around you who don’t really know what it is or other think that Wi-Fi is just another team for the internet, but it is not true.

First, we know what is Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi was introduced in 21 September 1998 and it stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi belongs to wireless networking technology family which is based on IEEE 802.11. It is used for LAN (local area networking) for internet access. The Wi-Fi was invented in 1991 by NCR Corporation/AT&T. Initially the use was for cashier  systems. The first wireless products that were brought on the market was under the name “WaveLAN” with speeds of 1Mbit/s up to 2Mbit/s. Vic Hayes, was involved in designing standards such as IEEE 802.11b and 802.11a. He has been named as “the father of Wi-Fi.”

Although Wi-Fi is typically used to access the internet on portable devices like smartphones, tablets or laptops. Wi-Fi use local network to connect device due to this it helps to print pictures wirelessly or we also connect our phone with TVs to watch movies, pictures or video. The interconnection between  one or more access point in a certain area is called hotspot. As we know that it allow the device to connect directly with each other, so that this type of connectivity ode is useful on most of the gaming applications like Mini Militia.

Wi-Fi access points are used most in home to provide Internet access to all the devices. In Business and industrial environment, as increasing the number of Wi-Fi access points we get faster roaming and increased network capacity by creating smaller cell or by using more  channels. In addition to home and office use, Wi-Fi is publicly available also at Wi-Fi hotspots provided either free of charge or used a certain price.  While a wireless network offers some significant advantages and disadvantages. But the advantages and disadvantages of Wi-Fi balance out each other and we also know that every coin has two sides.
