Coronaviruses are a type of virus and Covid-19 is the disease which is caused by a coronavirus which first emerged in China in November 2019. And hence, due to its large widespread nature, it was declared as a pandemic by WHO (World Health Organization). The main symptoms of this are respiratory illness.


Some important facts you need to know about Coronavirus –



  • It first emerged in China in November 2019

  • Covid-19 symptoms include cough, fever and chill, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, body or muscle pain, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, fatigue, and nausea.

  • The discovery that was tested in the laboratory was that the coronavirus can be transferred from person to person.

  • There is no coronavirus vaccine as of now or that has been developed yet, but in many countries, the progress of developing one is going on.

  • Prevention includes – frequent hand washing, coughing into the bend of your elbow, wearing to mask if you are sick and staying at home in insolation, and wearing a face shield. Change the mask whenever it gets wet or soiled. Physical distancing is to be maintained. Avoid touching objects at public places or which can act as a transmission for the virus.


Does Covid-19 cause death??


It depends from person to person and their immunity level. As of July 2, 2020, 516,726 deaths have been attributed to coronavirus so far. Whereas, 5,499,628 people have also been recovered from this illness.


Difference between SARS 2003 and Covid-19??



  • SARS 2003 stands for severe acute respiratory syndrome whereas Covid-19 stands for Coronavirus disease 2019.

  • In 2003, there was an outbreak of SARS in China and which later had spread to other countries as well before ending in 2004.

  • But when compared Covid-19 tends to spread faster than SARS 2003 and has caused some severe illness.


How do you protect yourself from this deadly virus??



  • Washing hands after every 15-20 minutes.

  • Carrying a sanitizer with you, if you are going out.

  • Avoid touching inanimate objects in public places with bare hands.

  • Wearing a face mask is of utmost importance.

  • If you are feeling any of the symptoms of this disease then kindly stay at home and isolate yourself, so that it doesn’t spread to other people around you.

  • Practice physical distancing, i.e., stay at least six feet away from others in public places. Call friends or family and visit them through video.

  • Start working from home, if possible.

  • If you cough or sneeze, do so in the bend of your elbow. Or if you tend to use a tissue then throw it away immediately.

  • Most important of all, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth or any part of your face with unwashed hands.
