Superstitions in India

In a populous country like India, people are very particular about each and everything. They believe in many useless things. People still have some old beliefs which has no meaning at all. Now, you must be wondering What the Superstition is ? Superstition refers to a belief made by people or you can say a fear generates in the mind of people. In foreign countries , we have not seen a single superstition practiced by people . But in India , we have seen many people still practicing various superstitions everyday and I don't know why ? What will they get by practicing all these superstitions ? Well, here are some common superstititios, people of India still practicing or still prevails in Indian society :

  • Hanging lemon and chillies

  • If a black cat crosses your path, it's a bad omen

  • Removing eye evil

  • Adding 1 Rupee coin to gift someone

  • To keep onions or knives under your pillow to get rid of bad dreams

  • To not sweeping your floors after sunset

  • Don't wash your hair on Saturdays, Tuesdays or Thursday

  • Don't shake your legs

  • Not to go outside during solar or moon eclipse

Well, looking up all these superstitions some of the superstitions sounds funny but many of the above superstitions are still followed by my family members .Like, my mom always tells me not to wash my hair on Saturdays, but sometimes I just don't listen to her or go against her and sometimes I wash my hair on Saturdays because I don't believe in these superstitions . These are all wired things . In my opinion , by believing in all these superstitions , we will not reach to the highest peak . I think , people of India should also stop believing in these superstitions. By not believing in all these superstitions , there will not be any fear in the minds of people.  We have to eradicate this by awaring people about things . Even , priests also believes in all these superstitions.  Whenever , they come to our home , they often said, 'Don't do this' , 'Don't do that' , Today is not a good day but everyday is a good day . In most of the rural areas or villages , people really cared about these superstitions than in urban areas or cities .

At last , I want to say that Don't believe in these superstitions none of us can't be benefitted by all these !

Thank you !
