INTRODUCTION AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN:

Jal Mahal (meaning water palace) is a water palace in the middle of the Man Sagar lake in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The palace and the lake around it were renovated and enlarged by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber in the 18th century AD. The palace is an architectural showcase of Rajput style on a grand scale. The building has a picturesque view of the lake itself but owing to its seclusion from land is equally focus of the viewpoint. The palace is built in red sandstone is a five-storied building, of which four floors remain underwater when the lake is full on the top floor is exposed.

One rectangular Chattri on the roof is of the Bengal type. The Chatteris on the four corners is octagonal. It has a surface area of 300 acres along with the depth of 4.5m(15ft). The palace has suffered subsidence in the past and also partial seepage (plasterwork and wall damage equivalent to rising damp) because of waterlogging, which has been repaired under the restoration project of Government of Rajasthan.
