ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR



   The various approaches to management are systems approach , contingency approach, process approach etc the behavioural approach to management represents na distinct field of study called OGANISATIONAL BRHAVIOUR (OB) . Organisational behaviour is the study of observation , prediction and controlling of human behaviour in a organisation or at the work place. Organisation behaviour is a behavioural science that deals with what people do in organisation and how their behaviour affect the performance of the organisation.


     In an organisation resources can be characterised as following :


1. Physical resources


2. Financial resources


3. Human resources.


    Here we will be focusing on human resources that means this is human centric process like human resources management. HRM helps in managing the human resources only but study of organisation behaviour helps in getting the work done by the employee.


MEANING OF HUMAN BEHAVIOUR AT WORK OR ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR : 


1. Human behaviour is highly unpredictable.


2. It is the resource that relates to the knowledge , skill, motivation etc.


3. Human behaviour or organisational behaviour is a behavioural science that deals with what people do in the organisation.


4. This behavioural science helps the management to develop and evaluate the behaviour of the people in specific way in the organisation.


5. The ultimate goal of the organisation behaviour is making the organisation effective.


 6. This can be done by making individuals effective so that they can make effective groups and these effective groups will make an effective organisation.


FEATURES OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR : 


1. PART OF MANAGEMENT - Organisational behaviour is not the whole of management . It is that part of management which deals with people. 


2. SCIENCE AND ART -  OB is both a science and art. As science, it draws knowledge about human behaviour from different field of study , and as art it applies the knowledge to understand and modify the human behaviour in the right direction. 


3. SYSTEMATIC STUDY - OB is based on rational thinking that explains why people behave in a particular way. It predicts what people would do in different situations in a systematic way.


4. INTER-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH -  As OB deals with behaviour of people , it draws knowledge from pertinent field in the area of behavioural sciences like psychology , sociology and anthropology. 


IMPORTANCE OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR :


1. IMPROVES MOTOVATION AND COMMUNICATION - OB helps managers in getting the organisational tasks done by motivating the subordinates through financial and non - financial incentives and satisfying their needs. The communication may cut across hierarchies and departments to promote interpersonal and group dynamics.


2. MAINTAIN CORDIAL INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS - Industrial relations are the employer - employee relations. Cordial industrial relations have to be maintained at the work place to promote organisational performance. Industrial unrest may arise not out of technical issues like demand for high wages, high bonus , better working facilities etc. But out of personnel issues like lack of harmony , trust , confidence, mutual faith etc. 


3. SOUND WORK ENVIRONMENT - OB deals with human behaviour. People work in organisation not just to satisfy organisational goals. They also work to satisfy their personal goals through the rewards they get by performing organisational tasks. 


4. HELPS IN CREATING EFFECTIVE LEADERS - Good leaders are those who understand human behaviour, why people behave the way they go , why they behave differently in groups than when they individually, why do interpersonal relations get strained and a number of other questions related to human behaviour. This also helps in exploiting people's talent to the fullest and getting the best results from them.


5. SUPPLEMENTS FUNCTIONAL AFEAS OF MANAGEMENT - OB aims at efficient utilisation of human resources which results in optimum utilisation of the resources and moves the organization towards higher productivity . Inefficiency on the part of functional department can be converted into efficiency of people who run these department and manage them properly .


THERE ARE VARIOUS FIELD OF STUDIES WHICH CONTRIBUTE IN UNDERSTANDING RHE BEHAVIOUR OF THE HUMAN BEING AT THE WORK PLACE :


1. PSYCHOLOGY : psychology is an applied science which attends to explains the behaviour in the particular situation and predicts the human behaviour.


2. SOCIOLOGY : It has contributed to the study of OB through study of communication power and politics, group dynamic , organisation culture , organisation structure.


3. SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY : It is an area of psychology that blends concepts from psychology and sociology and that focuses on the influence of people on one another.


4. ANTHROPOLOGY : It is the study of societies to learn about human beings and their activities.


5. ECONOMICS : Economics helps in understanding the needs of the individual ao that they can be properly motivated to work efficiently.


     CONCLUSION : OB is also known as human behaviour at work place . It studies the cause and effect of human behaviour , along with a organisation structure to meet individual and organisational goals.
