INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY:

The National Gallery of Modern Art is a butterfly-shaped building with a central dome and a big beautiful garden in the entrance. The building was constructed by Sir Arthur Bloomfield in 1936, right after the construction of the Lutyen's Delhi. Even after its construction in the year 1936, the idea of the National Gallery floated 1949 and finally was formally inaugurated by the vice president Dr. S. Radhakrishnan in the year 1954, in the presence the prime minister of Jawaharlal Nehru.

ABOUT THE BUILDING.

A noted German art historian name Hermann Goetz became its first curator and in that time extended some new facilities like- Art restoration services and a documentation center. Later in 2009 a new wing of National gallery of modern art was inaugurated adding almost the six times space to the existing gallery plus it has a new auditorium, a preview theater, conservation laboratory, library, and an academic section as well as cafeteria and museum shop of its own.
