Mycoplasma
mycoplasma is a pplo (pleuropneumonia like organism ).This Organism causes pleuropneumonia, a contagious disease of cattles. this is one of the smallest organisms observed only under electron microscope. its discovery is credited under Louis Pasteur. PPLO oh is also known as MLO that stands for mycoplasma like organisms.
Following under are characteristics of mycoplasma:
- Its size is zero to one Micron in diameter
- this Organism can pass through fine poured filters
- this can grow on nonliving medium
- its internal organisation mostly resembles typical bacterium
- nucleus is not well developed
- nuclear membrane is absent
- this is found to be formed of 40 enzymes
- gram positive and contains DNA and RNA
- it is nonmotile
Diseases caused by mycoplasma are:
- Little leaf of brinjal

- Citrus Greening
- cotton stenosis
- grassy shoots of sugar cane rice yellow draft
About organisation and shape of mycoplasma
- there are various shapes of mycoplasma
- sparkle in shape and size is of 80 to 150 micron
- Pleomorphic forms are about 210 to 245 Micron in size
- mycoplasma poses filamentous
- These are found in soil, sewage, humans and plants
- their cell contain soluble protein and ribosomes.
