Mughal Monuments in Delhi.



Mughal Empire was established in 1526 by a central Asian ruler Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur popularly known as Babur in the first battle of Panipat with the Lodi kingdom. The defeat of Lodi kingdom marked the Victory and beginning of Mughal rule in Delhi. The Mughal period is refered as the golden era in the history and the rulers built a number of monuments paving a way for cultural development in the Nation. The national capital is full of Mughal architecture and is a very famous tourist destination where people across the world come, visit and learn about Mughals. 


So without any further discussion let's discuss about the very famous Mughal architecture in Delhi.


1. JAMA MASJID. 


Mssjid e Jahan Numa popularly known as Jama masjid is one of the very famous mosque, built in 1656 AD by the 5th Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in Indo-islamic and Mughal architectural design. 


Nearest metro station: Jama Masjid metro station, violet line. Old Delhi. The mosque has three great gates with two minarets alongside. The courtyard can accommodate more than 25,000 people with a total 899 black borders on the floor marking the space for worshippers. The material used in the building of the mosque is red sandstone and white marble. The masjid is one of the largest in the nation and a must visit area in Delhi. 


Visiting hours: 7 am to 12 pm. Then again opens at 1:30 pm and closes at 6:30 pm


Entry fee: free to all 


2. HUMAYUN'S TOMB. 


The tomb was build in the year 1570's by Haji begum, the wife of The second Mughal emperor Humayun. It was the first garden tomb in Indian Subcontinent, inspiring the architecture design of the Taj Mahal in later years. The tomb is mainly built if red sandstone with a char-bagh pattern and a big beautiful fountain in the center. The place is surrounded by other important Mughal buildings. 


Nearest metro: jor Bagh metro station , yellow line. 


Visiting hours: Sunrise to sunset.


Entry fees: RS 30-/ (to indians) RS 500-/ (to foreigners)


3. RED FORT. 


This historic fort famously known as Lal Quila in India was built again by the Fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1648, located in old Delhi this fort celebrates the hoists of the tri-colour indian flag every Independence day by the Prime minister of the nation. The architectural design of the fort is Indo-islamic and Mughal with usage of red sandstone mainly to build the walls. Within the complex there are a lot of buildings worth visiting. 


Nearest metro station: Lal Quila metro station, violet line. 


Visiting hours:Sunrise to sunset. Closed only on Monday. 


Entry fees:RS  35-/ (for Indians) RS 500-/ (for foreigners)


Special feature: light and sound show at 6:00 pm.
