micropropagation

MICROPROPAGATION

This is a technique to produce new plant progeny by using explants, that part of plant which shows property of regeneration or differetionation without formation of gametes. This is basically plant tissue culture technique, where plants are developed in artificial condition in all the favourable condition to meet the increasing demands of foods and to minimise the loose of crops and to utilise the less space for more cropping and more yields .Plant tissue culture is only known as MICROPROPAGATION .

BotanistFrederick Campion Steward discovered “micropropagation and plant tissue culture in late 1950s.

Plant tissue culture involves asexual mode of reproduction and its primary goal  is to improve cropping system and yields .”expalnt “,this a part of plant which is diseases free or free from  any kind of microbial infection ,and is chosen for developing a new plant in invitro conditions .suitable explants from angiosperms ,gymnosperms and pteridophytes can be cultured for development of adventitious roots ,shoots buds ,embryoids or complete plants .

Few steps in performing micropropagation :

• Selection of suitable explants,proper sterilisation .

• Multiplication of shoot from explants in the medium.

• Transfer of developed shoots into suitable environment into the soil.
