Is technology killing the younger generation?

The answer is not as simple as the question, it is complicated, it is Yes according to few perspectives and No in the other perspectives. Technology changed the world in both positive and negative ways. It has started with the invention of the printing press, now it has a series of inventions which has no end.

The vital technologies that changed the lifestyle of people around the world are social media, internet, mobile phones. Today’s younger generation, which is called Gen -X, literally live on their mobile phones. According to research conducted by British psychologists, Gen-X spends 5 hours a day on our Smartphones every single day. The millennials are focussing more in virtual life than the real-life, their presence is no more in the present. The internet which is created for gathering more information is, in turn, reducing our memory. The social media which is created to bring people closer is, in turn, creating distance between the people.

Technology kills creativity according to some people. Albert Einstein said “I fear the day that technology will surpass the human interaction. The world will have people of idiots.” I think the time is to see the future of Robots handling humans is soon. Now, at present generation be it preparing Noodles or creating an App, younger minds are looking for readymade stuff than from creating it from scratch.

The above-mentioned example for the laziness of younger minds is seen as a smart move by some people. Some people call this generation is building of smart people than the building of hardworking people. There are many positive impacts of technology on the younger generation, the information available online make them aware of everything around the corner in the world in a few seconds and make them grow smartly at a faster rate. The technology was able to create a virtual world for younger generation, where they feel the real independence than that in the real world.

Though technology has negative side, it has positive sided too. The positive or negative side is decided by our usage of technology. Stephen Hawking said “Most of the threats we face come from the progress we’ve made in science and technology. We are not going to stop making progress or reverse it, so we must recognise the dangers and control them. I’m an optimist, and I believe we can.” Let’s be an optimist and hope that the younger generation uses technology positively.
