Introduction to Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) is a widely growing technology providing interactive experience in fields such as aviation, industries, construction planning, medicine and gaming. It creates a real world environment on device screens with the use of sensory projections of visual overlays and graphics. It is the actual view overlaped by digitally modified view. Thus, changing the view of reality, that is augmented reality.

The origin of augmented reality goes back in the 1960s. This technology is still under development with many new and interesting features added to it with each upgrade. It involves the use of technologies such as S.L.A.M and depth tracking. Cameras and sensors, processors, projections and reflections are some of the components used.

Basically, there are four types of AR :-

1. Markless AR

2. Marker based AR

3. Projection based AR

4. Superimposition based AR
