     The international bank for reconstruction and development was set up at the same time as the IMF at the united nations monetary and financial conference held at breeton wood new Hampshire in July 1944. It began it's operations in June 1946. It is an international agency owned by governments which operated by the board of governors making long term loans to members countries and finance productive investment in member countries. 


FUNCTIONS OF IBRD -


1. To assist in the reconstruction and development of its members countries.


2. To promote private foreign investment.


3. To promote balanced growth of international trade.


4. To brings about a smooth transition from a war time economy to peace time economy.


5. IBRD aims to reduce poverty in middle income and creditworthy pooorer countries by promoting sustainable development through loans , guarantee , risk management products, and analytical and advisory services.
