During pregnancy the oestrogen (female hormone)level spikes up, leading to increase in hairfall.
On an average a human looses about 100 strands of hair in a day, which is naturally replaced. During pregnancy the hairfall diminishes and addition of new hair strands continues resulting in luscious, thick hair.
However post delivery the oestrogen level drops, as a result of which there is a noticeable amount of hairfall seen.
Here are some remedies that help in hairfall treatment:
- A good, healthy diet is important in maintaining the health of the hair.
- Continuing pre-natal vitamin supplements.
- Avoid excessive shampooing of hair and using a mild conditioner.
- Always use a wide toothed comb.
- Avoid tight hairstyles and rubber bands.
- Avoid procedures like straightening, curling of hair as excessive heat is known to cause more damage to hair.
- Avoid chemical treatment in hair like highlighting of hair, applying hair colour, etc.
- If hair loss is too excessive it is important to consult a doctor as it could signify an underlying medical condition.
Usually hairfall is temporary and the hair comes back to its original volume in a couple of months.
