How to be a Good Conversationalist?

Good conversation to a great extent depends on our ability to adjust to other people and on our attitude. Many times we cannot converse well and face difficulties in talking to people. Following suggestion will help in this regard:

Be Being Active Listener:
A person can never be a good conversationalist without being a good listener. Whatever the situation is, formal or informal, one must listen to other person carefully and attentively. One cannot respond unless he has listened and understood.

By Being Subtle Speaker:
One should be very mindful of what one tells and how it is told. Speaking without thinking can make the situation awkward and embarrassing.

By Being Simple:
It pays to be simple while doing a conversation. It is wrong that people get impressed if one is difficult, vague, and abstract. People like listening to simple, familiar language.

By Being Polite:
Good conversation is all about good manners. One should be courteous and use polite expressions and phrases during such interaction.

By Being Friendly:
It becomes much easier to talk to people who are friendly. A cheerful smile can make others comfortable. One should avoid making remarks that hurt the other person. Also one should restrain from being judgemental. Therefore, it is always safe to use moderate statements.

By Being Positive:
While conversing, one should express positive feelings and avoid criticizing others. It is always good to appreciate the good and positive qualities of other people and express appreciation.

By Not Arguing:
A good conversationalist never argues during a conversation. One might disagree with the person, but there is no need to impose one's thoughts on another. One can express disagreements and reservations in a friendly manner.
