HERITAGE CITY DEVELOPMENT AND AUGMENTATION YOJANA.



INTRODUCTION:


National heritage city development and augmentation yojana (HRIDAY), was launched on January 21, 2015, with the aim of bringing together urban planning, economic growth, and heritage conversation in an inclusive manner to preserve the heritage character of each heritage city.


ABOUT THE SCHEME:


The scheme is about support development of the core heritage infrastructure projects including revitalization of the linked urban infrastructure of heritage assets such as monuments, ghats, temples, etc along with reviving certain intangible assets. These initiatives shall include the development of sanitation facilities, road, public transportation & parking citizens services, information kiosks, etc. 


With the duration of four years (completing in November 2018), and a total outlay of 500 crores, the scheme is set to be implemented in 12 cities namely: AJMER, DWARKA, AMRITSAR, AMRAVATI, BADAMI, GAYA, KANCHIPURAM, PURI, MATHURA, VARANASI, WARANGAL, VELANKANNI. 


OBJECTIVE:


1, Planning, development, and implementation of heritage sensitive infrastructure.


2. service delivery and infrastructure provisioning in the core areas of historic cities.


3. preserve and revitalize heritage wherein tourist can connect directly with the city's unique character. 


4. develop and document heritage assets.


5. local capacity enhancement for inclusive heritage based industry.


6. implementation and enhancement of basic service delivery with a focus on sanitation services. Which may include public transportation, toilets, water taps, street lights, use of latest technology, in improving tourist amenities.
