INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY:

Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the city of Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed the strong defence ring for the city. the fort was originally named Sudarshangarh Fort but later came to be called as Nahargarh, which means abode of tigers. The popular belief is that Nahar stands for Nahar Singh Bohemia, whose spirit haunted the palace and obstructed the construction of the fort. Nahar's spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory in the fort, which thus became known by him.

Built mainly in 1734 by the king of Jaipur, this palace is a retreat on the summit of the ridge above the city. Walls extended over the surrounding hills, forming fortifications that connected to the Fort of Jaigarh, the fort above the capital of Amber. The fort was extended in 1868, during the reign of Sawai Ram Singh. Some of the scenes in the movie Rang De Basanti, Shudh Desi Romance, and Sonar Kella were shot in Nahargarh Fort.
