Fenugreek plants



Fenugreek seeds are tiny, bitter, dicotyledonous seeds of herb fenugreek. Toasted gently, they exhibit strongly aromatic and pungent flavor. Traditionally, fenugreeks seeds are helpful in curing digestive problems and to improve breast milk secretion in the nursing mothers. In the botany, fenugreek is a small annual leguminous herb belonging in the Fabaceae family, genus: Trigonella. Scientific name: Trigonella foenum-graecum. Some of the common names of herb fenugreek include greek-hay, methi seeds, bird's foot, greek-clover, etc.


 Fenugreek is a medicinal crop  plant that is  used in disease therapy. This plant is used for blood lipids and sugar decreasing in diabetic peoples  and have antioxidant and   antibacterial activity. It is an old medicinal plant and commonly used  as a traditional  food and medicine. Fenugreek is known to have hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolaemic effects, Anti-inflammatory effects. Recent research has identified fenugreek as a valuable medicinal plant with potential for curing diseases and also as a source for preparing raw materials of pharmaceutical industry, like in steroidal hormones. The plant contains active constituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, Saponins etc. fenugreek decreases body fats and obesity problems. Fenugreek (Trigonellafoenum-graecum), plant is widely distributed throughout the world and which belongs to the family Fabacecae. The yields can be significant increase in quantity and quality through the suitable management of cultivation, irrigation and harvesting. In this context, fenugreek (Trigonellafoenumgraecum), an annual legume, is extensively cultivated in most regions of the world for its medicinal value.
