INTRODUCTION:

Firoz Shah Tuglaq establishes the fortified city of Firuzabad in 1354, as a new capital of Delhi Sultanate, and included in it the site of the present Firoz Shah Kotla. Kotla literally means Fortress or Citadel.

The Feroz Shah Kotla or the Kotla is the fortress built by the Sultan of Delhi Firoz Shah Tuglaq to house his version of Delhi called Ferozabad. The Topra Ashokan Pillar from 3rd century BC stands tall into the complex of the Fort, which is made of Pristine polishes sandstone. This pillar was moved from Topra Kalan in Pong Ghati of Yamunanagar district in Haryana to Delhi under the order of Feroz Shah Tuglaq of Delhi Sultanate and was re-erected in its present location in 1356. Other than Ashoka Pillar the fort house Jama Masjid Mosque, a baoli, and a big garden complex.
