CRAFT BEER IN THE UNITED STATES.



The craft beer movement was revived in 1965 in the US. American craft beer drinkers have a higher average income and demographically white male and generation X. However, trends show an increasingly racially and ethnically diverse, female and millennial demographic profile. 


The American microbreweries typically distribute through a wholesaler in the tradition of the three-tier system. Other act as their own distributors and sell to retailers or directly to the consumers througha tap room, attached restaurants, or off-premises sales. This is done because alcohol control is left up to the states. 


Craft brewing is most established in the US. Where the changes to the US laws laid the foundation for the expansion of craft beers. The 1978 carter homebrewing law allowed for small amounts of beer and wine. Although states could enact local restrictions. 


As a result of deregulation, homebrewing became a popular hobby in the 1980s and the 1990s respectively, giving way to the launching of business ventures on home-based hobby brewing. 


During March 2014 the brewers association ((B.A.) updated the definition craft beers to remove any reference of use adjuncts in the brewing process. The changes allowed long-established breweries to be defined as craft beers.


Craft non-alcoholic beer, part of the craft beer market is also on the rise, including some brewers that are solely dedicated to the production of non-alcoholic beers.
