Blue green algae



This is a micro organism belongs to true bacteria.Blue-green algae poisoning occurs in late summer and early fall when the algae forms a scum on top of ponds or other stagnant waters. Because of the predisposing husbandry practices, cattle are most frequently involved. Blue-green algae poisoning has been reported in North America and Britain. Algae of genus anabeana are most frequently involved. There are two distinct syndromes in blue green algae poisoning: the neurotoxic  and the hepatotoxic  syndromes.


These are commonly called as cyanobacteria, which are found in water bodies , these also plays important role in cycling of nutrition and food chains .


few species of cyanobacteria , microcystis , aphanizomenon and Anabaena causes illnesses in humans and animals.

these toxic causes gastrointestinal infection and neurological diseases.
