Blue Brain

Blue Brain, a research project started in 2005 with an aim to develop digital reconstruction brains. This research was established by thinking of reverse engineering, that will make a use of a circuitry of a mammal's brain. The project was launched initially by EPFL, Switzerland.

Biological details of digital reconstructions along with the simulations of mammal's brain are into the use for specifying brain's structuring and functioning.

Henry Markram launched the project as the founder. Moreover, he had launched human Brain Project in Europe, along with co-directors Sean Hill and Felix Schurmann.

Blue Gene supercomputers run with NEURON software developed by Michael Hines. It helps in simulating the realistic model of the neurons and models based on experience rather than pure logic.

Similar projects such as the Cajal Blue Brain, has also been launched. Also some universities and labs are also working on the project.

The project was started to create a duplicate mouse' neocortical column. This is the smallest functional unit of the neocortex. It has the responsibility of performing high-level tasks, like thinking with a conscious mind.

The Cajal Blue Brain Project is under Technical University of Madrid. It has brought the super computer Mageritis in use. The research is carried at Supercomputing and Visualization Center of Madrid (CeSViMa). Nanotechnology has also an important role in the project.

Blue brain is in construction with an aim to shed some light on nature of the consciousness.
