To perform biochemical tests for microbial identification.
Theory:
Biochemical tests are the tests used for the identification of bacteria species based on the differences in the biochemical activities of different bacteria. Everything that a living organism does is the result of the activity of an ENZYME; the SUMMATION of the activities of all an organism's enzymes equals its BIOCHEMICAL FINGERPRINT. The types of biochemical reactions each organism undergoes act as a “thumbprint” for its identification. That is, by determining which set of enzymes are present in an unknown organism one can DESCRIBE & IDENTIFY that organism.
