AN INSIDE TOUR TO NATIONAL MUSEUM, NEW DELHI



HISTORY AND THE FACTS ABOUT THE BUILDING OF THE MUSEUM.


The Museum was formally established on 15TH August 1949 and was inaugurated by the then governor-general of India Shri Chakravarti Rajgopalachari. At that time it was decided until a


permanent home was found for the collection, it would continue to be housed at Rashtrapati Bhawan. 


The building was officially opened to the public on December 18th, 1960.


FACTS ABOUT ART AND ARTIFACTS INSIDE THE MUSEUM. 


It presented the artifacts that were first exhibited at Burlington House, London.


Sections inside the museum are divided on the basis of levels or the floor, each of which preserves different artifacts according to the time period. 


GROUND FLOOR:


ENTRANCE HALL, LIBRARY, AUDITORIUM, HARAPPAN CIVILIZATION, MAURYAN-SHUNGA-SATVAHANA ART, KUSHANA(GANDHARA, MATHURA AND IKSHAVAKU ART), GUPTA ART, GUPTA TERRACOTTA AND MEDIEVAL ART, BRONZE, LATE MEDIEVAL ART, BUDDHIST ART, INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING, GALLERY PF INDIAN SCRIPTS AND COINS, DECORATIVE ARTII, DECORATIVE ART1, JEWELLERY GALLERY. 


FIRST FLOOR.


SPECIAL EXHIBTION, MANUSCRIPTSI, MANUSCRIPTSII, CENTRAL ASAIN ANTIQUESI, CENTRALL ASAIN ANTIQUESII, COINS, THANJAVUR PAINTINGS/HERITAGE, AJNTA PAINTINGS.


SECOND FLOOR:


DECORATIVE ART AND TEXTILE, PRE-COLUMBIAN AND WESTERN ART, DECORATIVE ARTS AND TEXTILES, COPPER PLATE, WOOD CARVINGS II, WOOD CARVINGS II, MUSICAL INSTRUMENT, TRIBAL LIFESTYLE, ARMS, AND ARMOUR.
