INTRODUCTION AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN:


Amar Jawan Jyoti (English translation: flame of the immortal soldiers), is an Indian memorial constructed after the Indo-pak in 1971 to honor the martyred and unknown soldiers of Indian Arm Force who died during the war. The memorial was constructed in 1971 and was inaugurated by Indra Gandhi in 1972. Amar Jawan Jyoti is located under India Gate in Rajpath, New Delhi, and consists of a marble pedastal on which a cenotaph is situated. Amar Jawan (immortal soldiers) is scripted in Golden words on all four sides of the cenotaph and on the top, a L1A1 self loading rifle stands on it's barrel with a helmet of an unknown soldier on the top. The pedastal is bound by four urns, one if which holds the continuous burning flame. 


HISTORY:


From 3rd December 1971 to 16th if December 1971 India had a military confrontation with Pakistan during the liberation war in East Pakistan. Creation of Bangladesh was assisted by India during which many soldiers died. Indra Gandhi then gave thought to honor the Jawan of the nation and the construction of Amar Jawan Jyoti commenced in 1971. And since 26th of January 1972 it is customary for the prime minister, president and other government authority to pay homage to the Dead soldiers of the nation.
