ALL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT UDAN.



INTRODUCTION:


UDAN-RCS (UDE DESH KA AAM NAGRIK), is a regional airport development and regional connectivity scheme(RCS) of Government of India (GOI). The main objective of this initiative is of letting the common citizen of the country fly, aimed at making air travel affordable and widespread, to boost inclusive, national economic development, job growth, and air transport infrastructure development of all the regions and states of India. 


ABOUT THE SCHEME:


At the beginning of the scheme, out of a total of 468 airports, 406 were participating in unserved airports, 27 were well-served airport out of 97 non-RCS airports and 12 were operational airports out of 18 participating underserved regional operational airports (Novemeber 2016) with regular fit wings regular flights. UDAN scheme will add this number by expediting development and operationalization of India's potential target of nearly 245 unserved, underserved and mostly under-developed regional airports with regularly scheduled flights. 


THE COMPONENTS OF THE SCHEME:


The scheme has two components. The first component is to develop new airports and enhance the existing regional airports to increase the number of regional airports for schedule civilian flights from 70 to at least 150 airports (by December 2018) 


The second component is to add several hundred financially viable airfare, new regional flight routes to connect more than 100 underserved and unserved airports in the small town with each other as well as with well-served airports in bigger cities with viable gap funding (VGF), where needed.
