INTRODUCTION AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN:


Rashtrapati Bhawan or the presidential residence (previously viceroy's house) is the official residence of the President of India which is located at the western end of Rajpath, New Delhi. The Bhawan has 340 rooms in the main building that has president's official residence including his office, reception, guest rooms, and also the mansion. It covers the entire are of approximately 130 hectares and additionally has a huge presidential garden (Mughal Garden). In terms of area it the largest residence of any head of the state in the world. 


HISTORY:


The decision to build a residence in New Delhi for the viceroy was taken after it was decided during the Delhi Durbar that capital of India would be shifted from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911. The new place for the viceroy of the India was given an enormous size and prominent position, around 400 acre land was acquired to begin the construction. On 26th January, 1950 when Rajendra Prasad became the first president of independent India, this building was occupied and renamed as Rashtrapati Bhawan or President's house.
