A REVIEW ON DIGILOCKER.



INTRODUCTION:


Digilocker is an online service provided by the Ministry of Electronics and IT(MEITY), Government of India (GOI), under its Digital India initiative. Digilocker provides an account in the cloud to every Indian citizen to access authentic documents/certificate such as driving license, vehicle registration, academic mark list in the digital format from the original issuers of these certificates. It also provides 1 GB storage space to each account to upload scanned copies of legacy documents.


ABOUT THE SCHEME:


Users need to posses Adhaar card to use digilocker. For sign-up, the Adhaar card number and the one-time password sent to Adhaar associated mobile number, need to be entered. For later logins, the users can set their own passwords or can link the account to facebook or google respectively.


OFFICIAL RECORDS:


On July 2016 digilocker recorded 20.12 users with the repository 20.14 lakh documents. The number of users jumped off to 7.53 users in April. In 2017 the facility was extended to students of ICSE boards, in fact, the Kotak Mahindra bank also started providing access to the same. Finally during March 2019, digilocker provide service to approx 3.5 crore citizens of the nation. There is also an associated facility for e-signing documents. The service is intended to minimize the use of physical documents, reduce administrative expenses, provide authentic of the e-document, provide security to the government-issued documents and to make it easy for the residents to receive services.
