5 Tips for Professionals to Spend More Time with Their Families

As the lifestyle patterns are changing, it’s getting even more challenging for people to juggle the time and focus between their job and personal life. Due to the never-ending tasks, apart from working hours, many people these days are putting in extra hours by using their smartphones to access emails, calls etc. We bet you do it too, don’t you?

Professionals try their best to blend work and home in a way that they don’t have to avoid their loved ones and also at the same time lose their foothold on success. Giving both work and home their due is essential. Deciding on where, when and how to be available for work is a constant challenge, predominantly for executives with families.

In order to spend quality time with your family and at the same time enjoying your work, it is vital to find a balance between these two worlds. Here are five tips for working professionals to spend more time with their families:

1. Have a Structured Schedule or Routine

Without any doubt, a lot of people wake up in the morning, take a shower, sometimes have breakfast and go to work. And later, they complain of not being able to take out time for their family. What is missing here is a pre-planned schedule. Having a plan for the week will help you manage work, plan activities that refresh your mood and spend time with your family.

Always set a standard time for work for which you want to dedicate yourself to. For those who have a standard 9-5 job, it’s good for them to work within that time frame and focus on their family, but for those owning a business or who work as freelancers, sometimes it gets difficult as they do not have a regular schedule. If you have nothing listed down in your week’s schedule, time will fly away with the blink of an eye.

Tip: Try waking up 2-3 hours before leaving work so that you can spend some quality time with your family!

2. Avoid activities that take up your time

When in office, it usually happens that after work you indulge into getting into conversations with fellow colleagues or sit down for snacks. These activities tend to take up a lot of your time and also add no value. Activities that make you less efficient, like staying on calls, spending time on the web etc. tend to make you spend more time at the office and reach home late. Setting up a specific time for these activities at work, a proper time to check emails or responding to calls let you have some peace of mind.

Tip: List down the trivial activities that consume your maximum time and avoid including them in your routine!

3. Re-think and Re-plan your Tasks

Some tasks cannot be avoided at times, but then, at that time ask yourself whether that particular task has to be done right away or it can wait.
