William Woodard "Will" Self is a British writer. His book titled Umbrella has been longlisted for the 2012 Man Booker Prize. His non-fiction writings include Junk Mail, Perfidious Man, Sore Sites, Feeding Frenz, Psychogeography, Psycho Too, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being a Prawn Cracker. His works of fiction include Cock and Bull, My Idea of Fun, Great Apes, How the Dead Live, Dorian, an Imitation, The Book of Dave, The Butt, Walking to Hollywood, and Umbrella. Some of his other writings are The Quantity Theory of Insanity, Grey Area, License to Hug, The Sweet Smell of Psychosis, Design Faults in the Volvo 760 Turbo, Tough, Tough Toys for Tough, Tough Boys, Dr. Mukti and Other Tales of Woe, Liver: A Fictional Organ with a Surface Anatomy of Four Lobes, and The Undivided Self: Selected Stories.

Will Self was born in London. His father was Peter Self, Professor of Public Administration at the London School of Economics. His brother is the author Jonathan Self. Will Self attended University College School, Christ\'s College at Finchley, and Exeter College at Oxford. He read Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford. After graduation, he worked for the Greater London Council. He went on to work as a cartoonist, and then turned to writing. In 1993, he was nominated by the Granta magazine as one of the 20 ‘Best Young British Novelists’.
