Ahmad Siddiq "Majnun Gorakhpuri" was famous for his Afsana style of writing. He was an Urdu poet, writer, and literary critic. He was born in 1904 at Gorakhpur in the erstwhile United Provinces (present-day Uttar Pradesh). He attended Allahabad University. He completed his Masters Degree in English from Agra University and another Masters Degree in Urdu from the University of Calcutta. Some of his works are Adab aur zindagi: Majnun Gorakhpuri ki chand tanqidat ka majmu\'ah, tarmim-o-izafah ke sath, Iqbal: Ijmali tabsirah, Tanqidi hashi\'e: Tanqidi mazamin ka majmu\'ah, NuqÅ«sh-O-AfkÄr, Sher Aur Ghaazal, Zaidi Ka Hashr, Khvab-o-khayal aur dusare afsane, andSaman posh aur dusre afsane, jin ka ta\'alluq ruhaniyat se hai. He also translated Shakespeare’s King Lear to Urdu. He taught at universities in India; however he moved to Pakistan in the 1960s.
Gorakhpuri won the Presidential Medal Tamgha-E-Imtiaz although he was anti-dictatorial rule in Pakistan. He was awarded the medal by Pakistan General Zia Ul Haque.
