PARA VAYU, a new form that evolved from the rock band VAYU, around since 1997, has been founded by Ravi Iyer. After the release of VAYU’s album titled ‘WINGS OF A DREAM’ in June 2009, Ravi Iyer and bassist Crosby Fernandes reformed VAYU to PARA VAYU, thus exploring a wide range in various genres of music.

Ravi Iyer has been actively involved in the rock circuit since 1985. Since then, strong influences in metal, classic rock, blues, pop, jazz rock and even Hindustani classical music, initiated him to explore them in the music of PARA VAYU.

PARA VAYU ‘s music spans over a wide range of genres including classic rock, alternative, progressive, blues, funk, jazz rock et al. Music being free from boundaries, thought or judgement.

The Band

Ravi Iyer – Guitar
Born and brought up in a musically inclined family he has been exposed to Indian classical music from the very beginning. He first received formal training in Indian percussion instrument Tabla. In the year 1985 he then took a liking towards guitar and western music and began his formal training in guitar music. He has been trained under reputed tutors and musicians like Mr. Bismark, Mr. Christopher Rodiques and Mr. John Timothy to whom he is indebted for helping him to take up music as a profession being a guitar player.

Soumitra Bhat – Vocal
He has also undergone a formal training in hindustani classical with stringent vocal training for over a span of 8 years. In due course of time Soumitra took a liking to rock music and he always aspired to lend his voice to different forms of music, be it rock, blues, jazz, fusion et al. Being a guitar player himself, his inner search to explore various forms of music and to compose his own music lead to him performing with various bands in India as well as abroad.

Crosby Fernandes – Bass
Crosby Mario Fernandes was born to a Goan catholic family in Andheri, Bombay. Rumor has it that had it not been for his father’s constant nudging, Crosby would have been totaling accounts in some suburban office today. But thanks to support at home, the inspiration by bass greats such as Billy Sheehan and Victor Wooten, and the pristine tutelage of guitar coach Bismarck Rodrigues, Crosby discovered his true passion in the bass
