Wendell Rodricks Biography and latest books by Wendell Rodricks

Wendell Rodricks is one of India\'s top ten designers. He has worked extensively on a wide range of fashion—from lecturing on world costume history to fashion journalism and styling for many international advertising campaigns. He has authored Moda Goa and is coming up with a new book The Green Room.

Rodricks started his career as a catering graduate but realized fashion was his true calling. Rodricks has researched and worked on the theme of the history of the Goan costume for three years and interned at The National Costume Museum in Lisbon and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.

Rodricks has always believed that Indian clothes bear a strong influence from costumes coming from the other parts of the globe. He says, the Indian sari could be derived from Athenian dress and the kurta is a Moghul creation. He also has stated that Arabs of the eighth and ninth centuries introduced skirts and robes.

Rodricks lives in Colvale village of North Goa.

His book, Moda Goa, studies the factors that shaped Goa’s distinct garment style. He believes that it was in Goa that the first ever Indo-Western garments evolved. Different faiths, tribes and foreign cultures coloured the Goan clothing heritage, creating a style that is a unique blend of international aesthetic and Indian emotion.

The Green Room is his next release that will be out sometime this year. In this book he covers his growing up years in Bombay, falling in love with a man (he is openly a gay) and how he went about becoming a designer in Bombay, Turkey and Goa.
