Surdas was a saint, poet, and musician and lived in the 15th century. He was born blind in Siri, near Delhi while some say that he was born near Braj in Mathura. Legend has it that he lived beyond a hundred years. He wrote a hundred thousand songs in his magnum opus, the \'Sur Sagar\' (Ocean of Melody). Emperor Akbar became his patron as a result of his voice and poetry. His devotion for Lord Krishna is evident in his poems. He was referred to as the ‘sun in the sky’ in Hindi literature. His poetry was composed in the Braj Bhasha dialect in Hindi.
