Author Suniti Namjoshi churns out poetries, prose and articles with equal finesse. She is an important writer in contemporary Indian literature in English. Her work breaks common stereotypes in one stroke: she narrates fables without making it sound preachy and she is a feminist who can be funny. Her works of fiction deal with a kind of radicalism that is far from frivolous. Her characters are quirky, funny, intellectually agile and capable of making connections between the mundane and the metaphysical. Her work Building Babel is famous.
 
Suniti Namjoshi was born in Mumbai in 1941. She has worked in the Indian Administrative Service before she relocated to Montreal. She earned a PhD from McGill University with a thesis on writer Ezra Pound. She now lives in the UK and works as a full-time writer. Her poetry, fables, articles and reviews have been featured in various anthologies and journals in India, Canada, the US, Australia and Britain. She deals with topics like gender, sexual orientation, cultural identity and human rights.      

Namjoshi says that initially she thought that literature had nothing to do with ethics but once she came across books by Kate Millett, Virginia Woolf and Adrienne Rich she realized that power from wealth and social ascendancy intersected with the literary enterprise.
