Siobhan Dowd was an Irish writer. She was born in 1960 in London to Irish parents. She attended Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University from where she completed a BA (Hons) in Classics. She went on to complete an MA in Gender and Ethnic Studies from the University of Greenwich. She began her career as a researcher for the International PEN. She traveled across Indonesia and Guatemala to investigate local human rights conditions for writers. She was acknowledged as one of the ‘top 100 Irish-Americans’ by the Irish-America Magazine and AerLingus, for her global anti-censorship work.
Dowd’s books include A Swift Pure Cry, Bog Child, The London Eye Mystery, and Solace of the Road. She began working on another story which was completed by Patrick Ness, the author of A Monster Calls.
