Selina Sen is an Indian author whose work has been compared to Jhumpa Lahiri’s writings. Her first novel titled A Mirror Greens in Spring is based on the author’s mother’s memories of her ancestral home that is now in present-day Bangladesh. The book did good business and was later translated into many languages.
Selina Sen was educated in Simla and the Delhi University where she studied Economics. She began her career in writing with features and travel pieces to India’s leading newspapers. For over a decade she has worked as the North Indian correspondent for a Hong Kong-based publication which brings out magazines on Asian economic affairs.
A Mirror Greens in Spring depicts the difference between two refugee cultures in Delhi, created upon the partition of India. In fact, issues of identity and displacement are woven as a distinct motif throughout the book. The book is full of surprises and is depicted through the eyes of two Bengali sisters.
Selina Sen has charmed European audiences and her work has been translated into French, Italian, and Spanish.
