Syed Sajjad Zaheer was a famous Urdu writer, Marxist thinker and revolutionary.
Zaheer was born in Luknow. He followed his father\'s footsteps, studied law at Oxford and became a barrister.
Zaheer began writing with a story in an anthology of short stories titled Angaray, which had stories by Sajjad Zaheer, Ahmed Ali, Rashid Jahan and Mahmud-uz-Zafar. The book was banned in India by the British Government "for hurting the religious susceptibilities of a section of the community." Later he went about publishing London Ki Ek Raat (novel), Roshnai, (collection of essays), Zikre Hafiz (research on Persian poet Hafez) and Pighla Nilam (poetry).
Sajjad Zaheer died on 13 September, 1973 while attending a conference of Afro Asian writers at Kazakhistan.
