Rumer Godden was a British novelist. She was born in Sussex in England and grew up in India. She wrote more than sixty books both fiction and non-fiction. Some of her writings for adults include Chinese Puzzle, The Lady and the Unicorn, Black Narcissus, Gypsy, Gypsy, Breakfast with the Nikolides, Take Three Tenses: A Fugue in Time, The River, A Candle for St. Jude, A Breath of Air, Kingfishers Catch Fire, An Episode of Sparrows, Mooltiki, and other stories and poems of India, The Greengage Summer, China Court: The Hours of a Country House, The Battle of the Villa Fiorita, In This House of Brede, The Dark Horse, Thursday\'s Children, and Pippa Passes. Her non-fiction writings are Rungli-Rungliot, Hans Christian Andersen, Mrs. Manders\' Cook Book, The Tale of the Tales: Beatrix Potter Ballet, The Butterfly Lions, Gulbadan: Portrait of a Rose Princess At the Mughal Court, A Time to Dance, No Time to Weep, and A House with Four Rooms. Rumer Godden attended Moira House Girls\' School in Eastbourne, East Sussex. She returned to India as a trained dance teacher and opened a dance school in Calcutta. She went to live in Kashmir for a while with her two daughters until she returned to Calcutta and then left for England. She remarried and settled down in Scotland until her death in 1998.
