Ramavriksha Benipuri (1899–1968) was a noteworthy Hindi writer. He was born in a Brahmin family, in a village called Benipur in Bihar. He spent eight years in prison for participating in India\'s independence.
He was also a journalist and started several newspapers like Yuvak (1929) and regularly contributed to spreading the idea of freedom from British Raj.
Benipuri wrote mostly long stories. His dramas covered ancient events and settings. For example, Ambpali depicts the life of the Indian courtesan Amrapali who converted to Buddhism after being influenced by Buddha. Likewise Netradaan (Gift of Eyes), another drama, is based on a King Ashoka and son Kunal.
He was also a distinguished playwright.
