Pritish Nandy is a poet, painter, journalist, politician, media personality, animal activist and film producer. He has published a number of poetry collections in English and also translated poems by other writers from Bengali and Urdu.
Nandy was born in Bihar to a Bengali Christian family.
Nandy\'s first book of poems Of Gods and Olives was published in 1967. This collection was followed by 14 volumes of poetry. In July 1981 Nandy was nominated as a Poet Laureate by the World Academy of Arts and Culture.
Nandy then went on to becoming a full-time journalist. He has served as an editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Independent and Filmfare, Science Today, Dharmayug and Madhuri. He is currently a columnist with The Times of India and Dainik Bhaskar. Nandy has been writing for The Times of India for over two decades.
