Karnail Singh Somal is a renowned Punjabi writer. He was born on 28 September, 1940. He studied privately, as he had to undertake petty jobs. After his M.A. in Punjabi and Hindi he went on to complete his Doctorate from Punjab University on the Study of Free Verse in Punjabi. He has been contributing articles to Punjabi newspapers for over three decades. He has also written stories and poems for children. His noteworthy works include Giani-Jeevan, Rachna Te Shaksiat.
