Justine Fontes is an American writer. She was born in New York and raised in Long Island. She attended New York University from where she received a BA degree in English Literature. She worked in several publishing houses before she took to fulltime writing. Together with her husband, Ron Fontes, they have written more than 500 children’s books. She has been a recipient of the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award, Independent Publisher Book Award, and YALSA Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. She is the author of The Trojan Horse: The Fall of Troy: A Greek Legend (Graphic Myths & Legends), How the Zebra Got Its Stripes, George Washington -- Soldier, Hero, President, Arthur Christmas: The Novel, How the Camel Got Its Hump, Atalanta: The Race Against Destiny, A Greek Myth, Demeter & Persephone: Spring Held Hostage, a Greek Myth; and Captured by Pirates (Twisted Journeys) among other books.
Fontes’ favorite book as a child was Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. Her favorite writers have been Rosemary Well, Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
