Jonathan Anthony Stroud is an English author born on 27 October, 1970 in Bedford, England. He essentially writes fantasy novels for children and young adults.  One of his best works is the Bartimaeus Trilogy.

At the age of six, the family moved to St. Albans where he grew up. From childhood days he enjoyed reading, drawing and scribbling stories. Between the ages of seven and nine he got sick very often and so most of the time he was hospitalized or bedridden at home. In order to get rid of his boredom he read books vigorously most of which were magical adventures and fantasies. It was during this time that he fell in love with the world of fantasy.

After his high school he went to University of York where he got his degree in English Literature. From there on he moved to London where he worked as an editor for the Walker Books store. This is when he published his own works which were quiet a success. His first book Word Puzzles was published in the year 1994. When his first children novel, Buried Fire was published in the year 1999, he realized that it was what he really wanted to do so he gave up his work as an editor and became a full-time writer. The same year he got married to Gina.

Among Jonathan’s works the most prominent one is the Bartimaeus Trilogy which was his first book to be published in the United States. The trilogy consists of The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem’s Eye, and Ptolemy’s Gate. Out of all the writings he have done, his favorite is Ptolemy’s Gate which was very challenging for him to write because he had to bring the Trilogy to a very satisfying conclusion. The Trilogy also won him many awards. Apparently the first of the three series, The Amulet of Samarkand is being made into a movie. Jonathan’s latest novel, Heroes of The Valley was out in April, 2010.

Currently Jonathan Stroud is residing in St. Albans, Hertfordshire with his wife Gina and their two kids, Isabelle and Arthur.
