James Gordon Farrell (JG Farrell) was born on January 25, 1935 in Liverpool. He belonged to an Anglo-Irish family. His father was an accountant in Bengal while his mother was a receptionist and secretary to a doctor. He attended Rossall public school in Lancashire. He went on to study at Brasenose College, Oxford. He studied French and Spanish. He went to Paris where he taught.
JG Farrell received astounding success with his book titled Troubles. His other writings included A Man from Elsewhere (his first book), The Lung, A Girl in the Head, The Siege of Krishnapur, and The Singapore Grip. His posthumous writings include The Pussycat Who Fell in Love with a Suitcase and The Hill Station; and an Indian Diary. His Empire trilogy comprised Troubles, The Siege of Krishnapur, and The Singapore Grip.
JG Farrell died in 1979 on the Bantry Bay coast in Ireland.
