Ghulam Abbas was born in 1909 at Amritsar, India. He is a short story Urdu writer with distinct writing style. He did good many translations of Russian and English short stories till he made a debut with his Mujjasama (The Statue) published in annual edition of Karavan in 1933. His short story collection Aanandi(1939) and Overcoat won him international fame and popularity. His short stories JaaDay ki Chaandni and Kan ras are well-acclaimed in the sphere of literary works. One of Ghulam Abbas’s best known books is Jaray Ki Chandni (Moonlight in Winter, 1960) which is a collection of his most admired stories. He spoke several languages including Persian, Punjabi, Urdu and English. In 1967, he wrote a short story called Hotel Mohenjodaro which visualised the consequences of theocratic government as it might apply to Pakistan. Some of his writing works include Dil Hi to Hay, Gondni, Bhanwar, Overcoat, Bahaar Ki Hawa, Hamsayay, Juwari, Katbah, Mujassamah and Us Ki Biwi.
