Frederick Forsyth is an English crime fiction writer along with being an occasional political commentator. His best works include thrillers such as The Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File, The Fourth Protocol, The Dogs of War, The Devil\'s Alternative, The Fist of God, Icon, The Veteran, Avenger, The Afghan and The Cobra.

Forsyth was born in Kent. He began his career by joining the RAF and was a jet fighter pilot. He later became a journalist, where he worked with Reuters and the BBC.

Forsyth decided to write novels using research techniques that were similar to journalism. His first full length novel, The Day of the Jackal became an international bestseller.

His works of fiction often get into the technicalities of crimes such as money laundering, gun running and identity theft. His novels were similar to investigative journalism albeit with a fictional story thrown in. Forsyth\'s novels spoke at length about characters such spies, gangsters, assassins, diplomats, business leaders and politicians.
